Why, Yes, I Can Love a "Chick Flick"

And so can you.

"Two For The Road" stars  Albert Finney , Audrey Hepburn with appearances by William Daniels and Jacqueline Bisset.

This is a love story pure and simple. Well, pure anyway. All love stories are about relationships. But most dwell on the beginning. This one covers a twelve year period.

The trailer gives you the feeling that everything is hunky dory though out the movie. But its not that simple. No relationship ever is.

The ten-year marriage of Mark and Joanna Wallace is not going as planned . We are treated to their first meeting,  moments in their courtship and early wedded life, their travels through Europe, their broken vow never to have children, and their increasing tensions that led to both of them having extra-marital affairs. All of this happens in flashbacks. and not in chronological order.

Watch carefully and you will see how one scene leads to another  in jump cuts with small hints. Mark and Joanna are sunburned and that leads to a dinner of lobster in another time and place. A red gasoline truck passes behind Mark's head (as he delivers on of the best lines in the film) and we see the same truck second later, or rather years later in another scene.

The timeline jumps back and forth, sometimes keeping you guessing.

Hepburn as Joanna couldn't be better. It wold be easy to call this her finest role.

Produced and Directed by Stanley Donen. Written by Frederic Raphael with a musical score by Henry Mancini.

I cant help but recommend this for a romantic evening, one where you don't want to leave your brain behind.
